A special place. It's unassuming at first glance, but my first contact with the owner showed me that I'd find understanding here. The food is interesting and the wine is well-chosen. I highly recommend it.
So, let me say at the onset that this review is somewhat biased. In April 2023, I arrived for a late dinner at O Vinhaca with my friend as a first time tourist to Lisbon. We were both getting our bearings of Alfama and of Lisbon. By the end of our meal, the food and the wine, the ambiance, and in particular Carlota's hosting and personal recommendations left such an impression we returned 2-3 nights later. And we keep returning.
I won't repeat what others have so positively commented and complimented about the food, or Carlota's knowledge and advice in paring the perfect bottle of wine with personal preferences or tastes, other than to say four years and several visits to Lisbon later both on my own and with friends, an evening dining with Carlota at O Vinhaca remains a marvelous experience and the highlight of our trips to Lisbon.
I said I arrived for a late dinner at O Vinhaca as a tourist. Four years later, and many meals later, it is lovely to say I now arrive and leave as a friend, and am already looking forward to being back later in the year.
