Dining in one of the oldest Fado houses remains a deeply moving experience, so steeped in history does the place seem; but the historical aspect alone isn't enough... Admittedly, the food was decent, but served at breakneck speed by a waitress who seemed to be bulldozing her way through the crowd... The other three waitresses appeared more cheerful, more genuine... The show consisted of three artists, each performing three songs; while the male singer and especially the female singer were convincing, the first, younger singer had a voice that lacked projection (the equivalent of Carla Bruni in France, ironic for Fado). Having recently seen Mariza in concert, the comparison is striking. The manager of the establishment reminded us several times, rather coldly, that silence was required, as is customary in Fado. Fado also requires good musicians and singers, so we would advise the manager to stop singing during the show, as his level is disconcerting... In total, an evening cost 169 euros (including the show at 50 euros per person)... Worth doing once...
The food is ok. The show is an absolutely magical experience!! €3 for a bottle of water seems high. You can have reservations a little later. The show doesn’t start until around 9:00pm so if you get there early you will be sitting a longggg time. The chairs are terribly uncomfortable.

in the last weekFado starts at 9pm. We arrived 730, not realizing the show was later and not during the meal.

a week agoSuch a beautiful and romantic evening. The Fado was excellent, and the service top notch. Thank you for such an authentic Portugese experience.
